I was tasked with developing a logo and brand guide for Paw Paw Press. Paw Paw Press is a proposed publishing company dedicated to sharing the traditions, stories, and crafts of the Appalachian region. Through publishing writings, recipes, crafts, and other cultural works, the company seeks to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of the area.
Currently, Paw Paw Press exists as an online-only entity, but its founders have a larger vision: to transform it into a recognizable brand that not only publishes content digitally but also sells merchandise in physical stores. This expansion requires a strong, cohesive identity—one that is both authentic to Appalachian roots and versatile enough to thrive across multiple platforms.
The branding needs to reflect the region’s heritage while maintaining a modern, approachable feel. It must work seamlessly across digital publications, printed materials, and retail merchandise, ensuring that as the company grows, its visual identity remains strong and consistent. To achieve this, I am focusing on key elements that resonate with Appalachian culture—natural motifs, traditional craftsmanship, and a warm, inviting aesthetic. By weaving these influences into the brand’s foundation, I aim to help Paw Paw Press establish itself as both an authentic cultural voice and a recognizable brand in the publishing and retail space.
